Forsyth County Soil & Water Conservation District

Soil- and water-conservation districts have their roots in the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s, when the mechanization of farm equipment led to the rapid erosion of soil and loss of topsoil. The districts helped farmers come up with ways to conserve their land and prevent sediment runoff from polluting streams. Though Forsyth County has become more urbanized, the district's mission of preserving water quality and preventing erosion remains the same. But instead of just farmers, district supervisors are now reaching out more to people who live in cities and suburbs. Forsyth.cc/CES/Conservation/
